Brian Hart

Singer Brian Hart became interested in Irish sean-nós songs and singing styles in high school and has fully immersed himself in this unique but oft overlooked tradition ever since. In 2002, at age 24, Hart became the first American and youngest person ever to win the All-Ireland Fleadh ballad singing competition, senior division.

A dedicated student of both the song tradition and the Irish language, he holds degrees in Celtic Studies and Irish Traditional Music Performance from UW Milwaukee and the University of Limerick respectively and has spent months in the Connemara Gaeltacht (Irish speaking region in the west of Ireland).

Hart is also the founder of Sean-nós Milwaukee, an annual event featuring many of the top exponents of sean-nós singing from the US and Ireland. He has performed throughout the Midwest both solo and with the band Anam Ri.
